Leaving the Atocha Station, by Ben Lerner. ARC received for free from Coffee House Press. Publication: Aug 23, 2011 by Coffee House Press. Today I finished reading Leaving the Atocha Station by Ben Lerner. Leaving the Atocha Station is a good book but its audience is going to be pretty small. I bought a copy of Prufrock and Other Observations recently. Published 2011 by Coffee House Press. A review of Ben Lerner's first novel, Leaving the Atocha Station. In very different vein, the young American writer Ben Lerner recently published his first novel Leaving the Atocha Station (2011). Leaving the Atocha Station documents the stay in Madrid of Adam Gordon, a young poet on a fellowship in early 2004, tracing his development as a poet over that period. My skepticism was rooted in the book I had just finished: much of Leaving the Atocha Station is concerned—or rather its protagonist, Adam Gordon, is concerned—with the purpose and practicalities of poetry.
